Lift your head from your rifle during your hunting safari to appreciate the magnificent scenery that surrounds you!
Bowker Safaris is situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, one of the most scenic parts of the country. 5 of the 7 South African biomes converge in this area with an extraordinary diversity of landscapes, plants and animals to appreciate.
During your safari you will find yourself in such differing landscapes you could almost think you are in another country.
The Thicket Biome is found mostly in river valleys, characterised by dense, spiny, evergreen shrubs and trees. Examples of fauna found in thicket include kudu, monkey, bushbuck and elephant.
Different species of grasses dominate the Grassland Biome with very few bushes or trees. Many types of grass-eating herbivores can be found in this habitat, such as black wildebeest, blesbok and eland. Rodents are also common in grasslands which makes this biome an ideal hunting ground for birds of prey. The diverse plant species also support many plant-eating insects such as butterflies, grasshoppers, crickets and ants.
The Fynbos Biome is characterised by medium-Hight buses, reed-like plants and taller protea bushes.
The Nama Karoo biome is dominated by grassy, dwarf shrubland where rainfall is very low. Small trees occur along drainage lines and rocky hillsides, while plains are dominated by low shrubs, grasses, succulents, geophytes and annual forbs. The flora provides good grazing for antelope.
The Forest Biome is dominated by tall trees that form a roof above the forest floor and found in kloofs in the mountains. Numerous insect species, birds and small mammals such as bushpig, bushbuck and monkeys are found here. The canopy is a perfect habitat for birds such as the Knysna Loeries, pigeons and eagle
